Overview

PharmAssyst is a concierge pharmacy service in Ghana that brings the pharmacy to the patient. Instead of queueing at a counter, patients create an account, submit a medication request, and have their medication and wellness products delivered to their door in a secure, tamper-proof bag. SmartQix designed and built the platform: the public site that explains the service, patient accounts, the medication request flow that puts every request in front of a pharmacist, and the order tracking that tells patients when their medication will arrive.

The challenge

Ordering medication is not like ordering anything else. A prescription has to be checked by a pharmacist before anything is sold, patients need to trust a new service with their health information, and many of them are unwell or elderly and ordering on a phone. The service also had to fit how people in Ghana actually buy: some want to speak to a person before paying, some pay with insurance, and wellness products sit alongside prescription medicines. The platform had to make the regulated step feel simple without skipping it.

What we built

We built PharmAssyst as a Laravel web application around one simple journey: add a medication request, confirm and pay, and wait for delivery. Patients can upload a prescription or type their medications in by hand, and each request is reviewed and verified by a pharmacist before the patient confirms and pays, so no order goes out without a professional check. Patients then pay by their preferred method, with insurance accepted, and follow the order until the delivery partner brings it to their door, same day, in a tamper-proof bag. Everything lives in one account, so repeat requests and wellness purchases are easy to find. Call and WhatsApp buttons put the PharmAssyst experts one tap away, sign-up and sign-in are protected against bots with Cloudflare Turnstile, and wellness products are sold through a linked Paystack storefront. The pages are light and mobile first, so the service works on a phone over mobile data.
