LIMS African Restaurant
An appetite-first website for a West African kitchen in Hagerstown, Maryland: big food photography, a browsable menu, and a call-to-order button that is never more than a tap away.
Overview
LIMS African Restaurant serves authentic Ghanaian and West African food, from waakye and jollof to banku and tilapia, plus daily-pressed juices like sobolo and ginger beer. The restaurant takes orders by phone and serves dine-in and takeaway six days a week, and caters buffets for weddings, naming ceremonies, office events, and community functions. SmartQix designed and built the website to make the food the hero, help newcomers understand the menu, and turn hungry visitors into phone orders.
The challenge
A restaurant site has one job: make people want to eat there, then make it obvious how. LIMS does not take online orders, so the site had to route everyone to a phone call without frustrating people who expect a checkout button. The menu has more than forty dishes across five categories, many unfamiliar to non-African diners, so it needed structure, search, and photography rather than a wall of names. And most visitors arrive on a phone, often while already deciding where to eat.
What we built
We built the site around the photography. The home page opens on a warm welcome under the tagline "The Real Taste of Africa", framed by the kitchen's own plates, then walks through the story, the menu categories, signature dishes, and catering, ending with a three-step "how ordering works" section so the phone-first model feels intentional. The menu page groups dishes into tabbed categories with search and signature labels, so a first-time visitor can find jollof in seconds and a regular can spot new items. A sticky "Order now" button on mobile dials the kitchen directly, and hours, address, and all three phone lines sit on the contact page. Everything is server-rendered with a light Alpine.js layer for the tabs and search, so pages load fast on mobile data.
